Pascal Gaurin's rise across the Atlantic

Pascal Gaurin seems to have been born to be a perfumer. Indeed, he has always been captivated by the world of scents. In fact, he discovered the world by sniffing everything he came across. As an anecdote, his mother even wondered whether he was afraid of being poisoned! So it was quite naturally that he turned toward perfumery studies. He thus joined the ISIPCA, the great international school of perfumery in Versailles, and graduated from it. A year later, he began working at IFF, in its subsidiary based in Hong Kong. There, he took his first steps in the field and considerably broadened his olfactory palette. He embraced perfumery in its most artistic sense and took the opportunity to enrich himself with oriental culture. Then, in 1997, he was offered a position at the same company, in New York, the city of his dreams. He did not take long to accept this offer, combining his work as a perfumer with his other passions, music and cinema.

Pascal Gaurin's tastes

While most perfumers are drawn mainly to floral essences, Pascal Gaurin prefers resins, sensuality and woody notes. In other words, he is strongly drawn to dark scents. According to him, this attraction to this style of scent comes from his grandparents, and more particularly from their house in the Creuse. It was surrounded by very dark forests and was continually filled with a kind of smell of humus, mushrooms, leaves and bark.

All these elements led Pascal Gaurin to create celebrated fragrances such as Tom Ford For Men and Private Blend for the same house. At the same time, he also worked for Christian Lacroix. He seems to have made darkness his unfailing recipe for bringing out each person's personality.
