Gérard Anthony
The main milestones of Gérard Anthony's career
Gérard Anthony is known for having collaborated for over 20 years with the Firmenich group. He was a master perfumer there, which allowed him to work for the greatest luxury houses on the planet. Indeed, Firmenich is a company of worldwide renown, recognized for its creativity, its innovative spirit, its understanding of the market and its unrivaled expertise. Today, it stands as a true giant of the fragrance market, with more than 5000 employees spread across 23 subsidiaries around the globe. Nevertheless, among these many collaborators, some stand out as true emblems. Such is the case of Gérard Anthony. Among the nearly 700 fragrances composed by the Firmenich house, he signed a great many masterpieces. Gérard Anthony notably created, in 1978, one of the most famous men's fragrances in the world: the iconic Azzaro pour Homme. Beyond this one, he also worked for Balenciaga, Harley-Davidson, Grès, Hugo Boss, Inubi, Lalique, Montana, Morgan, Nikkos-Oskol Fragrance, Paco Rabanne, Salvador Dali, Sonia Rickiel and Ted Lapidus.
Gérard Anthony, a perfumer eager to pass on his knowledge
Moreover, his talent did not stop at composing fragrances. A generous man and a very good teacher, Gérard Anthony also endeavored to pass on his passion for his craft to younger generations. Thus, Alice Lavenat, a young perfumer at Jean Niel, a Grasse-based fragrance company, readily admits that he left a lasting mark on her career. She met him just after obtaining a diploma from ISIPCA, the renowned perfumer training school in Versailles. This remains for her an unforgettable encounter, and he even became her mentor for eight years. It would also seem that Gérard Anthony's teaching was particularly beneficial. As it happens, Alice Lavenat, following these many years of apprenticeship, won the Prix du Jeune Parfumeur Créateur from the Société Française des Parfumeurs.
Gérard Anthony thus appears as someone generous, both in passing on his knowledge and in the art of creating fragrances.
