Between a fresh opening of cardamom, bergamot, lemon and Sichuan pepper and a resinous base of benzoin, labdanum, opoponax and oud, Outlands plays on the distance from zest to balsam. The name of Cécile Zarokian is associated with this creation from the house Amouage, whose heart tier brings together florals, spices and patchouli.
Zests and resins
Spicy, fresh cardamom, fruity and sweet bergamot, tangy lemon open the composition. Sichuan pepper and elemi add a lemony touch, with elemi also leaning toward orange. Olibanum brings wood, mineral and spice; incense adds camphorous and waxy facets.
Florals and spices
Patchouli lays down an earthy, damp material, slightly camphorous. Warm, honeyed rose, waxy and powdery orange blossom, geranium with rosy accents form the floral side. Davana brings a velvety ripe fruit; animalic cumin, leathery and tarry saffron, green anise and bright coriander make up the spicy side.
Balsams and woods
Vanillic benzoin with hints of caramel and toasted almond, warm and ambery labdanum, balsamic opoponax and sweet vanilla make up a resinous base. Olibanum returns, woody and mineral. Camphorous ambergris and musk bring an animalic note, birch its smoky leather, oud a feral wood with hints of incense.
Amber family
Outlands owes its classification among the ambers to labdanum, whose amber and caramel odor structures accords of this type, supported by benzoin, opoponax and vanilla. Ambers readily combine warm balsams and spices, a role played here by cardamom, saffron and cumin.
