Fruit, whether red or green, whether traditional to our orchards such as strawberry or apple, or exotic such as guava, papaya or mango, appears in numerous feminine fragrances. Fruit basket is thus the worthy representative of all these sweet, gourmand flavors combined into a single note.

Fruit, fragrances and above all women!

Since the turn of the millennium, fruit has taken over fragrances, especially feminine ones, with its sweet, gourmand scents, to our great delight. It appeals to all women for its wholesome, natural character, showcased not only in perfumers' compositions but also in beverages (the trend for the famous smoothies and other vitamin-packed cocktails), not to mention in desserts, from stewed fruit to jam, as well as tarts and other cakes.

Thanks to fruit, perfumers appeal to all women, whether European, Anglo-Saxon or even Asian, who until now had been rather resistant to fragrance. Why? Because fruit is reassuring, fruit is wholesome and evokes everything that indulgence and emotion bring us: happiness!

We draw our inspiration from every direction, from nature, with the recent discovery of spices or woods, but also from food. The current enthusiasm for world food is, for instance, stimulating, states Olivier Cresp, perfumer.

This shows how intoxicating and mysterious the fruit basket note can be. Because deep down, do we really know what fruits our favorite perfumers put in their basket?

What exactly do noses and perfumers slip into the fruit basket note? The question remains open and interpretations are numerous: raspberry, apple, cherry, strawberry, orange? Hard to say, though fruit basket features in lovely fragrances that are often floral, sometimes oriental or chypre, but always gourmand.

In Mon Paris by Yves Saint Laurent, a pretty gourmand floral, the fruit basket note settles into the heart alongside orange blossom and jasmine. Original, sweet hearts that give way to a gourmand base sillage with a slightly chypre touch. Herrera Tuberose by Carolina Herrera also features the fruit basket note in the heart notes, paired with sun-kissed notes of tuberose and ylang-ylang. In Somei Yoshino by Parfums Berdoues, the accords turn delicately Asian, taking the fragrance on a journey through Japan's cherry blossoms. Thus fruit basket lends verve and vitality to the bouquet of floral heart notes.
The fruit basket note seems entirely at ease within the floral fragrance family. This does not stop it from mingling with orientals such as Angel Edition Passion by Thierry Mugler or chypres such as Mojito Chypre by Parfumerie Générale. Almost systematically found as a heart note, fruit basket lends its sweet scents to lovely fragrances.
