ChypreMiracle berry
Miracle berry entered perfumery with Barénia, Hermès’s first chypre, signed by Christine Nagel in 2024. The perfumer relates having had its composition analyzed to reproduce its scent in the laboratory, with a result close to dried apricot. It is also found in Barénia Intense and Barénia Pleine Fleur.
Barénia
Barénia is Hermès’s first chypre, created by Christine Nagel, director of perfume creation at the house, who knew from her arrival in 2014 that she would compose one. It pairs butterfly lily and miracle berry, wrapped in oak wood and an intense patchouli. Its name comes from Hermès’s natural Barénia leather.
Its bottle, designed by Philippe Mouquet, takes up the Collier de Chien bracelet and is refillable. The perfume arrived in stores in September 2024, accompanied by a perfumed body cream and a soap.
A reconstituted berry
Christine Nagel relates having discovered miracle berry, which contains a protein called miraculin, three or four years before the launch. She had its molecular composition analyzed to reproduce its scent in the laboratory; the result is a note close to dried apricot, which brings a fruity delicacy to the chypre.
The note is in the top of Barénia in 2024 and Barénia Intense in 2025, and in the heart of Barénia Pleine Fleur in 2026.
