Kimmidoll dolls are small resin figurines standing 6 to 40 cm tall. They appeared in France in 2008 and are marketed by the company Kontiki. Easily recognizable, they always share the same distinctive features. They are dressed in a kimono, have almond-shaped eyes made up in Japanese style, and a colored headpiece symbolizing a straight haircut. However, the color and patterns adorning the Kimmidoll change according to their meaning. Indeed, Kimmidoll are not simple toys but carry a symbolic significance. Moreover, in Japan, they first appeared during the Edo era, in the ninth century. They were sold as souvenirs from the hot springs region in the northeastern part of the country and were given as tokens of love or friendship.
