Mark Buxton
A good many perfumers currently work for large groups such as Givaudan, Robertet or IFF. Nevertheless, some of them are completely independent. This allows them to give free rein to their imagination and not be guided by the sometimes overly strict briefs of creation houses. This is how Mark Buxton lets his creativity express itself. He owns his own brand and displays an unusual style. Mark Buxton, an Englishman in love with France Mark Buxton was born in England and studied near Hamburg. Then he went to Paris and literally fell under the spell of this city considered to be the capital of romanticism and elegance.
He has thus lived there for more than 20 years now and draws from it an inexhaustible source of creativity. Mark Buxton is known for being a hedonistic creator and a lover of fine things in general. He is a discerning connoisseur of wine and also particularly enjoys cooking. Indeed, perfumery and the culinary world are two fields that actually share many similarities. Mark Buxton is therefore, in this respect, a very good cook. Likewise, he is an avid collector of Art Deco objects and enjoys hunting through the flea markets of the capital. In terms of perfumery, he has been exploring raw materials for 25 years. He has collaborated with the biggest brands on the international market and is highly regarded for his olfactory impertinence. Mark Buxton is an extraordinary and audacious character who likes to let his emotions speak. His world is at once very elegant and modern, avant-garde and aesthetic, structured and seductive. It suits women just as much as men. However, Mark Buxton targets more specifically personalities with a somewhat rock ’n’ roll soul. Thus, to give free rein to his well-defined world, he created his own brand.
The Mark Buxton brand
The style of the Mark Buxton house is very clean and contrasted. One can notice a touch of English chic along with an offbeat, modern energy combined with a more traditional side. This generally gives his fragrances the aesthetic of a contemporary dandy. Mark Buxton does not hesitate to shift the conventional codes of luxury. He generally enjoys crafting short formulas and seeks above all absolute simplicity. Nevertheless, his striking compositions are no less the result of constant research. He has turned restraint into a highly complex undertaking and thus strives to capture emotions at their core. Mark Buxton explains: I like clean formulas, absolute simplicity, beautiful classic and natural raw materials to be boldly and modernly shaken up… but with an aesthetic rigor.
The boldness of Mark Buxton’s writing has allowed him to collaborate with the biggest luxury brands, such as Givenchy, Versace, Paco Rabanne, Cartier and Van Cleef & Arpels. Likewise, since 2010, he has embarked on a new creative project and is, in this capacity, one of the partners of the Nose boutique, a store dedicated to niche brands, open since June 2012 in Paris. Through it, he helps young perfumers with an unconventional profile become known and thus champions olfactory diversity.
