The very promising beginnings of Laurent Le Guernec

As surprising as it may seem, Laurent Le Guernec was not born in Grasse. Indeed, most creators of current fragrances come from that region. He was born in Paris. Nevertheless, he still spent part of his childhood in the Grasse region. No one really knows whether this determined his choice to become a perfumer. Be that as it may, Laurent Le Guernec began his schooling in a scientific track. He entered the University of Paris as a chemistry student. It was at that point that he truly decided to become a perfumer. It must be acknowledged that this choice boded well, since prior knowledge of chemistry is required to enter the top perfumery schools. This allowed him to be accepted into the prestigious ISIPCA school in Versailles, a true institution that has trained the greatest perfumers on the planet. There, he had the good fortune of having exceptional mentors. In particular, he learned his craft under the guidance of master perfumers Pierre Bourdon and Jean-Claude Ellena. He also completed internships at the prestigious Monique Rémy laboratory in Grasse. From then on, he earned his diploma while gaining a reputation for having had the best possible training. Thus, Laurent Le Guernec already had an outstanding résumé before even having worked. This opened the doors of several highly prestigious fragrance composition houses to him.

The professional development of Laurent Le Guernec

Laurent Le Guernec began his career in 1991 at Fragrances Ressources, a company that was still fairly new at the time, whose goal was to create a bolder perfumery, giving perfumers more freedom in developing their fragrances. Laurent Le Guernec joined the brand's creative team based in the United States. Once again, he collaborated with the talented Pierre Bourdon. He then left the company to work at Givaudan. This Swiss company is today the world leader in its sector. It produces both odorous raw materials for perfumery and flavors for the food industry. On its own, Givaudan holds 25% of its market share. This opened many doors for Laurent Le Guernec and allowed him to sign creations for two prestigious fragrance houses. Laurent Le Guernec then changed jobs again and joined the Mane group, a company creating flavors and fragrances based in the Alpes-Maritimes, not far from Grasse. Finally, after reconnecting with his origins and developing some very popular fragrances, Laurent Le Guernec ultimately joined IFF, Givaudan's direct competitor. Among his greatest creations, Laurent Le Guernec notably created Rain by Marc Jacobs, Lovely by Sarah Jessica Parker, and Boss Pure by Hugo Boss.
