Céline Martin

Perfumery is an art most often passed down from generation to generation. Thus, most of today's great perfumers come from families whose previous generations already practiced this craft. Yet a few creators stand as exceptions. Such is the case of Céline Martin. Perfumery was, for her, a distant dream that sometimes seemed unattainable. Yet through perseverance and boldness, she managed to make a name for herself in the industry. Focus on her journey, her ambition and the promise of a bright future.

The unusual journey of Céline Martin

Behind the very French name of Céline Martin lies, in fact, a woman of more exotic origins. Having arrived in France at the age of seven months, she was adopted. In reality, Céline Martin is originally from India. However, she only returned to her native soil years later. Entering the world of perfumery was, for her, a cherished dream. Indeed, the creator confides that she has always been sensitive to scents and cosmetics. Yet it was first toward the field of advertising graphic design that she directed her studies. Once she had earned her degree, she was nonetheless called back by the world of fragrance. She therefore completely changed direction and decided to create her own fragrance right away. Her boldness is truly striking. Indeed, most perfumers come from a major perfumery school and also have a scientific background. Céline Martin explains that she had in mind exactly the product she wanted to create. However, not being a trained chemist, she started from the visual of a bottle to gradually develop her formula. She got in touch with a perfumers' laboratory, and that is how her project came to life. Her company was founded in January 2006. Today, Céline Martin has her own brand and also collaborates on large-scale projects.

Céline Martin's Indian inspirations

Although Céline Martin does not know India very well, it is nevertheless from her native country that she drew inspiration to create her fragrances. In fact, her brand is named Sahlini. This is her Indian name, the one given to her at birth. By choosing her own native name, it is somewhat as if Céline Martin had decided to reconnect with her origins. Even so, she says she feels entirely French. Indeed, when she went to India for the very first time, she felt truly foreign to that country. Nevertheless, she considers that olfactory memory is the oldest of our unconscious memories. That is perhaps how she seeks to recapture the scents of her childhood, she says, that India so often imagined and redrawn in her own way throughout this line of perfumes. Thus, the Céline Martin brand is characterized by scents that are often warm, spicy, somewhat oriental, without ever being too sweet.
