Bulgarian rose is the Damask rose (Rosa damascena) grown in Bulgaria, mainly in the Rose Valley, a region located between the Balkans and the Sredna Gora mountains, in Thrace. This region benefits from a particular microclimate — alternating cool nights and sunny days — which favors the development of an exceptionally rich aromatic profile.

The flowers are harvested entirely by hand at dawn, when the essential oil content is at its peak. Bulgarian rose otto, obtained by steam distillation, is one of the most expensive natural raw materials in the world. Bulgarian rose absolute, obtained by solvent extraction, is also highly prized for its richness and complexity.

In perfumery, Bulgarian rose is an absolute reference. Its intense floral profile, slightly honeyed, with fruity facets and a subtle spicy depth, makes it an irreplaceable heart ingredient in major floral compositions, chypres and orientals. It is often regarded as the benchmark for quality among natural roses.
