Sweet notes
The word sweet defines something tender and delicate, which leaves a lingering sensation of cocooning. In perfumery, the sweet note is therefore an irresistibly tender and delicate note. Sweet notes soften and enhance the other notes in a composition, whether floral, fruity or oriental. Sweet notes are a group that brings a touch of delicacy and blend with all olfactory families.
Sweet notes in perfumery
On the agenda: softness, delicacy and well-being. Sweet notes are alluring, as they always promise delicate and comforting moments, somewhat like a large white cloud. Sweet notes are used extensively in perfumery. They inevitably soften the composition into which they are integrated. Sweet notes blend with absolutely all olfactory families and secondary families; they have their place anywhere. Sweet notes also lend elegance to the fragrance as a whole. Sweet notes are therefore found in a great many compositions, but many are floral, as in Dior Addict Eau Délice, a fruity floral fragrance where sweet notes are positioned as a base note alongside white musks, thus bringing a softer sensuality. Another floral composition in which sweet notes can be found is Flowerbomb, La vie en Rose, where they are also found in base notes alongside fruity notes. Sweet notes are also found in oriental-floral compositions such as Flower by Kenzo, Eau du Printemps by Kenzo and L'Instant by Guerlain, where sweet notes, alone in the base notes, soften the whole set of notes in the fragrance. Sweet notes are also found in many other great perfumes such as Lady Million by Paco Rabanne, Cologne Royale by Christian Dior, Bois d'Iris by Van Cleef & Arpels, and Miss Dior Eau Fraiche by Christian Dior.
Highly prized in perfumery, sweet notes lend softness, delicacy and calm to a composition as a whole. They act as a cocooning effect and soften the other notes. Sweet notes fit equally well into feminine and masculine perfumes and are part of some truly beautiful fragrances.
