Sugared almond, a gourmand scent The very first gourmand perfume in history was born in 1992 from the hands of Thierry Mugler. It is now known worldwide and is called Angel. This iconic juice can boast of having single-handedly revolutionized the world of perfumery. Indeed, since its birth, sweet fragrances have not stopped multiplying. They represent no less than 60% of sales in terms of feminine fragrances.

It most often evokes the regressive world of childhood without lacking elegance. Moreover, beyond its gourmand scent, it also conveys an image of delicacy with a festive spirit.

Sugared almond, a true gourmand symbol

Sugared almond is a confection generally made of a hard core, coated in sugar. Traditionally, it is a small elegant candy given on the occasion of baptism, communion and weddings. The origins of the sugared almond are manifold. Traces of it are found as far back as Roman times, and the sugared almond is said to have been invented for the baptism of a Roman patrician noble. Legend has it that it was born by accident when an almond fell into a jar of honey. In France, its origin dates back to 1220, in Verdun. An apothecary reportedly had the idea of dipping his almonds in sugar and honey to make them easier to preserve during transport. As one can see, although its origin is uncertain, the sugared almond did not take long to become a highly appreciated treat. It is also known to have featured in numerous important events, such as the coronation of Henri III, in 1574 for example. Sugared almonds were also greatly appreciated by Louis XIV. This ancestral candy has changed somewhat over time but has managed to endure through the decades. Today, tradition holds that sugared almonds bring luck to the future spouses. Five sugared almonds must be exchanged between the newlyweds during the vow exchange, thus ensuring them fertility, happiness, prosperity, health and longevity.

Sugared almond in perfumes

Sugared almonds evoke, for each of us, very positive moments. They are associated with a world of sweetness and enchantment. They are at once gourmand and poetic. Often glazed in white, they symbolize purity, and it is precisely for all these reasons that some perfumers have chosen to incorporate them into their perfumes. In fact, Réminiscence made it outright the main ingredient of one of its perfumes. Dragée by Réminiscence appeared in 2012, letting a delicate fruity and gourmand scent float in its sillage. Other well-known fragrances contain it, more in the background. This is the case with Burberry Brit by the eponymous house, L’Eau en Blanc by Lolita Lempicka, or Bouquet de la Mariée by Guerlain, quite a symbol!
