OrientalSerge Lutens's beginnings and his collaboration with Dior
Serge Lutens was born in March 1942 in Lille. He began his professional life at the age of 14 as an apprentice in a large hair salon. Very quickly, he created a style all his own, slicking back his friends' hair and giving them a pale complexion paired with a smoky gaze. Moreover, he combined this with his passion for photography and did not hesitate to photograph his models. In 1962, his prints allowed him to be hired by Vogue magazine to create hairstyles, makeup and jewelry. He then became one of the most influential figures of his era in fashion and beauty. In 1967, he was thus noticed by the house of Dior, which entrusted him with the development of its makeup line. He worked for the house for many years while devoting part of his time to his passion for cinema and photography. Furthermore, he was even exhibited as a photographer in 1973 at the Guggenheim Museum in New York.
Serge Lutens's consecration
The year 1980 marked the beginning of a new collaboration between Serge Lutens and the Shiseido group. He then took charge of developing the house's products from A to Z, from product design to the making of their advertising films. This period was particularly intense in terms of work and allowed him to assert his unique identity. Moreover, his dedication earned him several awards, notably two Gold Lions at the Festival du Film Publicitaire, as well as the Grand Prix du Festival du Film d'Art sponsored by Unesco, in 1990. Barely two years later, in 1992, Serge Lutens also created the fragrance Féminité du Bois, a true olfactory revolution that put an end to perfumery's segmentation between men and women. Moreover, it was also during this period that Serge Lutens opened his own boutique within the grounds of the Palais Royal in Paris. It was thus that he created his own brand, named Parfums Beauté Serge Lutens, in 2000. A genuine success, it earned him the Fifi Awards for best original concept for four consecutive years, from 2001 to 2004. In 2006, he received the Talent d'Or title from the Sommet du Luxe et de la Création before being made Commandeur de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the Ministry of Culture and Communication, in 2007.
After more than 10 years of existence, Serge Lutens's brand is regarded as one of the finest successes in niche perfumery. Undoubtedly, Serge Lutens is an extraordinary figure, a true fascination for perfume enthusiasts.
