Paco Rabanne

Paco Rabanne is the fragrance house of a Spanish couturier who dressed his models in metal. The partnership with the family group Puig, forged in the late nineteen-sixties, produced Calandre in 1969, a founding masculine in 1973, and some of the largest volumes in contemporary selective perfumery. The house has gone by the sole name of Rabanne since 2023.

A couturier who cuts into metal

Francisco Rabaneda Cuervo was born in February 1934 in Pasaia, in the Spanish Basque Country. His family fled to France during the civil war, and in Paris he studied architecture at the Beaux-Arts, designing accessories for fashion houses before signing under his own name.

In 1966, his collection of twelve so-called unwearable dresses, cut from sheets of metal and rhodoid, made him the most radical contemporary figure of Parisian fashion. The fashion house he founded that year worked hard materials while its neighbors worked fabric.

From Calandre to very large volumes

Calandre appeared in 1969, the house’s first feminine, built on a metallic floral note that nothing in the perfumery of its time had anticipated. Paco Rabanne pour Homme arrived in 1973 and opened the masculine department that the house has never since left.

Puig, a partner in the fragrances from the outset, took full control of the house in 1987. 1 Million appeared in 2008 and became the engine of the masculine portfolio, ahead of Lady Million, Invictus, Olympéa, Phantom and Fame. The Pacollection line broadened the catalog to mixed juices in 2019.

Rabanne, after Paco Rabanne

Paco Rabanne died on February 3, 2023 in Portsall, Brittany. That same year, the house dropped its founder's first name, logo included, and now presents itself under the sole name of Rabanne.

Julien Dossena has led creation since 2013, following the departure of Lydia Maurer, until the end of June 2026. Olivier Rousteing, who had left Balmain in November 2025 after nearly fifteen years, succeeds him on July 14, 2026; his first collection is announced for March 2027.
