Perfumery is a creative field that sometimes seems to come from another era. And for good reason: the first perfumes appeared during Antiquity. Nevertheless, over time and thanks to the collaboration of talented men, the art of perfumery developed considerably and evolved greatly. Today, these renowned creators leave behind an immense creative legacy. Vincent Roubert remains, to this day, one of the greatest perfumers of the last century.
The exemplary career of Vincent Roubert
Vincent Roubert was born in 1889. A particularly talented young perfumer, he began his career within the Antoine Chiris company, a firm located in Grasse. His history within this company dates back to 1912. Indeed, it was in that year that he created the perfume L'Or for François Coty, himself a former student of the Chiris school of perfumery. Vincent Roubert worked within this company until 1920, having gained considerable renown along the way. At that point, he decided to leave his first employer to join the Coty company as technical director and co-creator. If, by that time, Vincent Roubert already embodied the image of success in his field, this only grew over time. It was in the mid-40s that Vincent Roubert finally reached the peak of his career.
Vincent Roubert in collaboration with Jacques Fath
From Vincent Roubert's long career, two principal creations remain today. These were developed in collaboration with the French couturier Jacques Fath. Vincent Roubert thus gave birth to two legendary perfumes named Green Water and Iris Gris. Green Water is a fragrance created in 1946. Its timeless and elegant freshness was revisited over the years, so much so that Green Water still carries the air of a contemporary perfume today. It contains noble ingredients in very high quantity, as evidenced by the presence of neroli at a level of 5% of its composition. Iris Gris, for its part, was also crafted in 1946. This floral, woody and musky fragrance was intended for women. It highlighted absolutely refined and elegant ingredients, without being devoid of character. True legends of perfumery, these two perfumes were born on a fine day in 1946, as if never to leave us again.
