The exceptional longevity of the Creed company
The Franco-English company Creed was founded in 1760, in London, by James Henri Creed. Originally a fashion house, it is now famous for its perfumes. As a bit of trivia, six generations of the Creed family have succeeded one another at its head. First there was James Henri, then three successive Henrys, a new James Henry, and the youngest: Olivier. Undeniably, the Creed company lives up to its slogan: “Creed, father to son since 1760.” Moreover, the story does not seem to be over, considering that Erwin Creed is also already crafting a few fragrances. The Creed company arrived in Paris in 1850. It was around this time that it began to diversify its activity, enhancing its dandy suits with a few perfumes. A very first boutique dedicated to perfumery thus opened its doors in 1854. Today, Creed enjoys unprecedented renown. Many stars are loyal customers of the house. For instance, Madonna is a devotee of the fragrance Florissimo. David Beckham says he adores Himalaya. Robert Redford, for his part, takes Creed's luxury and expertise even further by having custom fragrances made for him.
Oliver Creed, an artist above all
Given the longevity of this company, one can well imagine that Creed's product catalog is absolutely immense. Nevertheless, Olivier Creed is behind some of the fragrances that rank among the house's most beloved. He notably created the fragrances Tweed Vert, Silver Mountain, Fleur de Printemps, Love In White, and Virgin Island Water. It must be said that with such origins, Olivier Creed could not escape his destiny. Yet he says that perfumery was never a constraint, quite the opposite. Also a painter in his spare time, Olivier Creed has always loved creating. It was at the age of 18 that he made the definitive decision to make perfumery his profession. Although this field is ingrained in his genes, he recalls his difficult beginnings and the immense learning it required. Moreover, Olivier Creed says he has always done everything in his power to live up to his forebears. Judging by his current renown, it would seem that he has fully achieved his goal.
