Each profession has its own clichés. Perfumery is no exception to the rule. Thus, even if the emancipation of women is gradually having an effect in this sector, it is true that perfumery remains nonetheless a profession dominated by men. Likewise, it is very rare to find totally independent creators there. Indeed, competition is fierce and it is often more comfortable to work for large groups. Yet it took more than that to discourage Mélanie Leroux. Both a woman and an independent artist, she does not lack audacity!
Mélanie Leroux's overflowing ambition
Mélanie Leroux decidedly fits no cliché of perfumery… Unlike most perfumers, she was not born in the Grasse region either. Mélanie Leroux spent her childhood in Normandy. Passionate about everything related, closely or remotely, to nature, she grew up surrounded by horses. In love with freedom, she quickly understood that only a passion could guide her life and that she did not want to settle for an ordinary existence. Through her readings and encounters, she gradually saw the path she was waiting for take shape. She was then intimately convinced that perfume was a field made for her, and that it would guide her entire professional journey. Thus, she pursued studies in chemistry. Indeed, the scientific field is a mandatory prerequisite for becoming a perfumer. This allowed her to join the most prestigious perfume school on the planet: ISIPCA in Versailles. Then, Mélanie Leroux spent 15 years within a fragrance composition house, in Grasse and in Paris. Nevertheless, eager to give free rein to her imagination and creativity, she ultimately chose to work in complete independence. Thus, in 2010, she founded her own company named Mademoiselle Parfumette.
Everyday life as a source of creativity for Mélanie Leroux
Mélanie Leroux likes to draw inspiration from her everyday life to create her new creations. Thus, she likes to translate everything that touches her personally into a new fragrance. This can be a simple encounter, a place, a moment, or an extraordinary personality. Endowed with an extraordinary sense of observation and attentive listening, she offers fragrances unique in their kind. Mélanie Leroux says she can draw inspiration just as much from a Parisian apartment as from a singing star, the show-room of a ready-to-wear brand, a Bordeaux château, or a couturier's workshop. For her, every new project is a singular adventure, a new story to tell. Thus, Mélanie Leroux creates bespoke fragrances according to a specific request made by her clients. Moreover, her company provides a comprehensive service to its consumers. Mélanie Leroux has surrounded herself with a network of providers and partners. Thus, she offers her clients other ancillary services they might need, such as designers, glassmakers, packagers… This young woman certainly has more than one trick up her sleeve and does not seem ready to stop on such a good path.
