The condemned woman: Executioner, you cut, but of my blood you are the sap.
The executioner: And of my heart, you are the wood.
As always, Serge Lutens graces us with an enigmatic text on the occasion of the release of his new fragrance: Bourreau des Fleurs. Need help decoding this cryptic language? You have come to the right place!
Bourreau des Fleurs, a fragrance from the Section d’Or
Bourreau des Fleurs is a particularly luxurious essence drawn from Serge Lutens’s most prestigious collection. The creator opened his own boutique in the Palais Royal in Paris in 1992. In doing so, he freed himself from every constraint, allowing his overflowing creativity to express itself fully. Serge Lutens can boast of having created a true olfactory revolution. With him, raw materials take on their full grandeur, and Serge Lutens always expresses himself in an uncompromising style. Nevertheless, he sorts his various fragrances into several different collections. Bourreau des Fleurs comes from the most prestigious of them: the Section d’Or. Serge Lutens explains that, within this assortment of fragrances, he decided to go beyond reason. His juices push an initial idea to its paroxysm. Section d’Or is a part of my expression, he says, it cuts and gathers, it goes beyond something that used to hold me back and that I am not yet able to explain clearly. Until now, Section d’Or brought together seven fragrances. Bourreau des Fleurs is the eighth.
The whole story of Serge Lutens in an exceptional fragrance
Through this fragrance, Serge Lutens actually shares with us a very personal story: the one he had with his mother. Serge Lutens was born during the war, in the north of France. He was separated from his mother within the first weeks of his life. His personality was then marked forever by a feeling of abandonment. The poetic name Bourreau des Fleurs conceals extreme suffering, symbolized by the photograph of a bouquet of axes that accompanies the launch of this new fragrance. Serge Lutens chose not to reveal the formula of Bourreau des Fleurs. Nevertheless, we know that, oddly enough, this fragrance contains no flowers. It is dominated by the power of a woody and smoky accord. Its very pronounced scent is thus intended for a clientele of seasoned consumers. Bourreau des Fleurs is at once both love and hate. It is very contemporary while drawing its roots from Serge Lutens’s original history.
