Dihydromyrcenol: the birth of this new wave of freshness

Of course, as lovers of fragrances with natural juices from plant-based raw materials, it is sometimes difficult to hear that this pure, fresh wave rippling across the neck comes from a synthetic molecule.
Yet the work of chemists on synthetic olfactory molecules has considerably changed perfumery and the scents of today. Beyond the fact that this research makes it possible to avoid using animal raw materials (ambergris or musk), it also makes it possible to develop new olfactory blends in order to keep appealing to a clientele constantly in search of novelty but also of surprises!
Dihydromyrcenol, the molecule behind the fresh facet, is therefore a pure product of chemists. However, the delicate, fruity fragrances produced thanks to this sharp, striking wave of aquatic freshness were born of the talent of great perfumers. Paired with citrus notes, the fresh facet would bring a great wave of novelty to perfumery starting in 1988...

The “fresh” facet: masculine fragrances but also feminine ones!

In 1988, a perfume would mark a decisive turning point in the history of dihydromyrcenol. Used by Davidoff in the famous Cool Water, the molecule would become far more than an olfactory agent with a pleasant “clean” smell! Blended with minty notes, musk and the famous cedar woody note, dihydromyrcenol gave its name to an entirely new facet: the fresh facet. The innovative juice is sparkling and exhilarating, and it would mark the beginning of the icy wave that would gradually spread through masculine fragrances.
Perfumers working for men, aware of this small revolution, would use the fresh facet to combine it primarily with fragrances built on aromatic citrus notes, then with green notes, such as fougère accords. The arrival of CK One by Calvin Klein in 1994 would open these fresh notes to an entirely new feminine audience seeking lightness and a new sense of modernity...
